“Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”
Matthew 8 v 23 – 27.

The apostle John claims that Jesus is the creator of the Universe (John 1 v 3). The apostle Paul teaches us that Jesus is the visible image of the invisible God (Colossians 1 v 15).

When we say that Jesus is in our boat, we aren’t simply saying that a nice idea is in the boat with you or that a good person or helpful guide is in the boat with you. We are saying that the One who placed the stars in the sky, the One who holds the whole cosmos together, the One who defeated the power of sin and death, the One who told the winds and the waves to be still, the One who holds all things together and will one day will renew all things, is with you in the storm.

You can experience faith instead of fear because God is in control, because Jesus gives you peace and because He is with you and He will never abandon you.
