Matthew 28 v 16-20
At this point in the story, Jesus has appeared to many people on multiple occasions; proving He is risen!
Then, the 11 disciples (remember at this point Judas has taken his own life) went to meet with Jesus at the place He had told them to go. The two different responses are amazing and may well resonate with you. Some worshipped Him; as they encountered Jesus they couldn’t help but praise and adore Him. Some doubted; even though they could see the risen Jesus face to face, they still had question marks! If you ever have doubts or questions then you are in good company!
I love Jesus’ response in v18. For all the doubters and all the worshippers, for all the faithful and all the fearful, for all the rejects and all the marginalised, for all those who have been broken and knocked down but are still fighting, they are IN! This passage, known as the Great Commission isn’t for the elite, the best of the best, the creme de la creme; these 11 disciples have limped to this moment! Jesus takes broken things, cracked pots, dust from the earth and He turns them into something beautiful, incredible, significant.
This Great Commission is for all who choose to follow Jesus, the Way, Truth and Life. This Great Commission is for all those who build their life around Jesus’ dream for humanity, the Kingdom of God, the life in all its fullness.
Here’s the Great Commission according to King Jesus;
“God has authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.”
So this week, may you teach others the way of Jesus, may you embody His life and live out His truth. May you know His presence now and every day and may you live in His purpose, in Jesus name, Amen!
